Many ancient cultures including the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks and Aborigines used ear candles in different forms such as reeds, hollow twigs and a pottery cone. This was done to help clean the ears.
Many use the name Hopi ear candles which is the brand name used by manufacturer Biosun. The name Hopi comes from one of the oldest of the first nation American Indians who are renowned for their harmony with nature.
Each ear candle is made from natural products such as Flax, Honey, Beeswax, Beta-Carotene, Camomile, Sage, Hypericum and an envirmentally compatible P.E (poly ethylene) filter.
The candles work on a chimney principle, with warm smoke gently drawing impurities towards the surface. They may help with many ear, nose and throat conditions and can be used from childhood onwards.
What happens during a treatment?
A full pre treatment consultation will be taken. Then you will be made comfortable laying on your side, this can either be on your sofa or bed. Each ear will be looked at using an Otoscope to check the health and amount of ear wax present. Then a candle will be lit and gently held in each ear, it takes between 10 to 12 minutes for each candle to burn down. During each candle you will experience a gentle warmth in your ear and hear a hissing noise as the candle burnes, the candle also smells lovely and helps you to relax.
After each ear has had an ear candle treatment, you will lay on your back and either receive a Reiki head treatment or facial massage including Sinus Acupressure points. After your treatment it is best to have a drink of water and to relax.
