Maternity Reflexology

Maternity Reflexology may help you through all the stages of your pregnancy. It is a specialised treatment and should only be carried out by someone who has undergone Maternity Reflexology training.

Is it safe?

Reflexology is a holistic therapy that works in harmony with your body and cannot make your body do something that it doesn't want to do. Around 98% of all early miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormalities in the foetus. If there is a viable foetus, Mother Nature will be intent on keeping this new life safe.

There are a few situations where treatments are contra-indicated such as if a client has DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis), Placenta Previa or Hydro Amnios after 32 weeks. Or if your midwife or GP has advised you not to receive reflexology on medical grounds. Consent from your Midwife will be required.

What happens during my treatment?

On my first visit to you I will take you through a medical questionnaire to check your health history and your general wellbeing. Then with you sitting comfortably in your arm chair or sofa I will place your feet up on my foot stool, then working over both feet and using some additional maternity reflexology techniques to aid relaxation and help reduce any odema. The first treatment will take around 1 hour 15 minutes, then each treatment after will be an 1 hour.

How oftern should I have treatments?

Ideally, it would be benifical to receive treatments monthly up until the second trimester, then fortnightly, followed by weekly treatments for the last month. This is as I know dependent on your budget, but using reflexology during the last trimester of your pregnancy may help your body get ready for the birth of your baby and give you some  last minute me time and relaxation!.

What conditions may Reflexology help with?

Reflexology may improve general wellbeing and is wonderfully relaxing to receive. Treatments may help with many conditions assoicated with pregnancy.

 Can Reflexology "Induce" Me?

I'm asked this question a lot - and the short answer is "no". If your body and the baby are not ready to go into labour, then only medical intervention will make it come before it's time.

After baby is born.

Continuing with your relexology treatments after the birth of your baby may help to:

It may also be beneficial in helping you cope with the "Baby Blues". Plus maybe you would like to learn how to give reflexology to your new baby too! baby reflex can be used from 4 weeks of age.

It is important to inform  your midwife before having any Reflexology treatments.

Did you know that, to help with the cost of this treatment, you are now entitled to a one off payment from the government of £190 when you reach 25 weeks.
